A collective construction – process for a sustainable development of the Community

IDEA AND AIMS

Since the lack of adequat space of existing Community Organisations, missing social meeting points and further perpectives for the residents the demand for a Community Centre in Magagula Heights is defently given. The highly comitted community organisations, who work with different target groups, are in posession of a good located piece of land and therefor provide a great point of departure.

The area is part of development plans of the Municipality and the high unemployment rate but the good social fabric are the source to create sustainable benefit to go along with the implementation of the Community Center.

The increase of skills capacity within the community is adressed by the collective building process that goes hand in hand with the transfer of the necessary knowledge of planning, management and construction via participation, active networking, trainings and workshops.

The participation of the community is based on volunteer engagement, cross – fertiliseing and complementary empowerment to identify and display existing potentials of self-sufficiency. Directly payments will be avoided but a remunerationsystem, like meal supply and buidling materials, will be introduced to compensate the generated effort .

By maximising the involvement of the community a greater ownership and control and therefore effective maintenance can be achieved. Simulataniously the foundation is layed for active self – determined attention of the housing need and creation of income strategies.

The process of collectively creating communal asset and competence will bring social and economical benefit for the ones involved, the centre and the community in longterm.
